Srjit Mukherji’s Bengali film “Ek Je Chhilo Raja”, starring Jisshu Sengupta, Jaya Ahsan, Aparna Sen, Anirban Bhattacharya, Anjan Dutt, Rudranil Ghosh and Sreenanda Shankar, has been selected as part of the 16th Indian Film Festival in Stuttgart.
“Ek Je Chhilo Raja”, which was released in India on Durga Puja (12.10.2018), is a period drama based on ‘A Princely Imposter’ by Partha Chatterjee. It draws inspiration from the famous 1975 Bhawal Sanyasi court case which involved an impostor who claimed he was the second Kumar of Bhawal. The court ultimately came to a surprising decision that the person was the prince indeed.
Talking about the movie, Mukherji explained: “It’s not just an entertaining one, but also a gripping thriller and I believe it will be perhaps my best work this year. A shocking series of real-life incidents make this film’s story more mysterious and I have largely focused on the famous court case. It’s a period courtroom drama that will certainly thrill the audience till the end.” [TOI Entertainment]
Asked about his journey to Germany, Mukherji told TOI: “I am hopeful. ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ is one of the most celebrated films that I have made. It was well appreciated by the audience in Kolkata after its release and now it is doing the rounds in the festival circuit.”
